I agree with you......Steward has produced some great fighters...and that's where his reputation comes from. McGirt's reputation just comes from the names he has worked with, not produced.

Yeah imo Steward would love to train Pavlik and Kessler as he praised them alot while commentating, also i find that would be a good match, although they both seem fine where they are.

i would love it, if kessler was being trained by steward.. eventhough steward loves guys with a good 1-2, he also teaches them some inside fighting. and certainly kessler would need that. ive seen almost every kessler fight, as in danish, and his inside game is suited at amateur level, but sucks in the pro´s.

i cant see him training pavlik, eventhough pavlik also has a good 1-2, the style difference is just too big. pavlik shouldnt fight cautios behind the jab, he needs to stalking behind the jab.

mcGirt is definitly over -rated , all his fighters seem to be losing lately.
I cant say the same about steward, he has been in the game a long time and has trained some great champions. i would say he is one tof the best out there.

McGirt is definitely an overrated trainer - all his fighters lose. Steward is alright, he has success with some fighters and not others. Really like some people said, the trainer can only do so much...most of the work is up to the fighters. Most of these guys are already so ingrained in their ways.

I think people might be going a bit to hard on MgGirt. I doubt there is a single trainer out there who has every fighter win every single match. Sure they may have some undefeated fighters in their stable, to have everyone win all the time would be quite a feat indeed. Malinaggi is probably his best guy right now, and if he manages to beat Hatton, I think a lot of people will change their tune on Buddy.

Steward is a hall-of-fame trainer, how could he possibly be called overrated? Sure Andy Lee lost recently on ESPN after all the hype, Klitschko is as uninspiring as ever, but he's got a good up-and-comer in Banks, and has trained some of the all-time greats like Hearns and Lewis.

I think both trainers are overrated. Kind of a bigger fan of Freddie Roach if only because he trains boxers who win (i.e. Pacquiao & Israel Vazquez). also worreid that enzo calzaghe might start to become more popular and he teachers his fighters to slap box, its a damn shame

Hmmmn...I think the jury is still out on Roach, to be honest. Yes, he's worked wonders with Pacquiao, but Vasquez lost the first fight against Marquez and one the last two with Rudy Perez in his corner, who I definitely think implemented some adjustments to his style which helped him to prevail. Roach, on the other hand, has had little success aside from Pacquiao with De La Hoya, Toney, Hopkins and the aforementioned Vasquez all losing relatively recently with Roach as their trainer...I still think that Steward is the best trainer around, and there's no-one I'd rather have there; if I were a fighter he would fill me with extreme confidence. Great presence in the corner, if only J. Taylor would've listened to him!

I like Freddie Roach, not perfect, but who is? He learned alot working with a great trainer, Eddie Futch for alot years.

Emanuel Steward has done wonders with fighters he brought up from the begining, like Hearns and Hilmer Kinty. He has joined camps of fighters later in careers with mixed results. I don't think he did very good with Jermain Taylor and Oscar, but on the other hand has helped Wladimir rebuild. Steward in my opinion did wonders rebuilding Lennox Lewis. Previous to his run with Steward, Lewis was a fighter with a good right hand, but that was also the problem! Lewis often led with the right hand which is dangerous. Under Steward, Lewis learned to set up that right hand behind a jab. A jab that enabled Lewis to turn back McCall in the rematch and the always dangerous Tua. It even fustrated Tyson. Yes it was the right hand that got the credit in the later bout but it was the right hand behind the jab that made it work! In many ways I believe joining with Steward brought Lewis to another level.

He worked under Eddie Futch with Virgil Hill. He later took over as head trainer for alot of Hill's championship run. He also spent some time training Mike McCallum, Steve Collins and even James Toney. I know he was Oscar's trainer for the Mayweather fight and worked with Israel Vazquez.
