Nothing to be shy about, or hide.

My names Craig Medaris, I'm a 28 year old 3rd year English major at NU in Australia. I grew up in a small coastal town called Port Macquarie, which is about three hours north of where I live now.

My mother's side of the family is of German Jew extraction, so they were hit pretty hard by the events of the Holocaust, but immediate family all remained safe. My fathers family originally came from Columbia, but my particular tree comes from Portugal.

I've studied on and off for the better part of 22 years straight now and I really do enjoy education. When the question of "what do you fear most" comes up, I always answer "being stupid enough to not know it." I just have a desire to learn as much about everything as I can and over the past couple of years I've become something of an autodidact/art nerd/hermit as a result. I don't mind being labeled as anything to be honest. I am a product of my own devices.

I studied finance and accounting for a couple of years before moving to Newcastle and continuing here. I love to read and write, but have pretty much given away writing, due to the abundance of essay writing I have through study. In my spare time, I try to read as much as possible and like to get through a book at least once every couple of weeks.

If I'm not reading or writing, I try to keep fit either by riding, walking or training (swimming or basketball). Though being sick for the past couple of weeks I've had little time for this.

I really do lead a spartan existence and I love it. It keeps me focused and keeps me well clear of consumerism and negative influences. I love a glass of red and a well made cup of coffee. Food and wine are my indulgences I guess you could say.

I've never even so much as held a cigarette, but its more of a statement now than having any real meaning. I've never used illicit drugs, due to a few things, not the least of which is a history of mental illness in the family, believed to have been triggered from drug use and alcohol.

I broke up with my longtime girlfriend in October of last year and haven't really moved onto new grounds in that respect since, but I'm at the point now where it's no real concern any more. Having been single for a period of about 6 months (the time between two serious girlfriends) in the last seven years, perhaps its what I need.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in August of last year and it has had an immense effect on my life. I nearly died due to complications of NOT being diagnosed and insulin therapy is a day-to-day struggle to remain healthy. It's tough, but there are people out there who are a lot sicker than I am and thats something I think about every morning before I take my first injection of the day.

I could muse on what role music plays in my life, but that might require more time than I'm willing to lend right now. Maybe later on.

Hows that?

Wow, Where to start! I was raised on U.S. Air Force bases as my dad was a pilot. Lived in Puerto Rico three years growing up. Lost my Dad over seas at 14 and settled in AZ. U.S. Been a big boxing fan since the 76 Olympics. Collected fights since 86.

Things about me that doesn't come up much.
At 15 I was 5'3" and weighed 210
At 18 I was 5'8" and weighed 250
At 20 I was 6'0" and weighed 180
Now-never mind!

I originallly wanted to be a boxer but instead became a volleyball player and played in serious competition for 15 years, played a total of 22 years til a semi-serious injury retired me but at the age of 47 was still competing with college level players sucessfully.
I am 50 but most people that meet me think I'm in my thirties(don't look my age yet)-My wife thinks I am still a kid  Speaking of which, I got lucky and met a beautiful lady that lets me stay involved with boxing and the internet and we have been married almost 20 years. We have 5 kids-the youngest 17 and nine, are still at home.

enough about me, tell me about you

I was raised in Southend, Essex but born in Stockport- My dad's family is from Barnsley and my mum's London/Manchester-

I have three kids- 4,3 and 1.

I went to uni in 2005 and studied mental health nursing- did seven weeks in the Priory (Roehampton) and a couple of NHS wards- didn't enjoy it or get along with a lot of people (the staff and students- the patients were great!)

Stumbled accross Banter a few months ago- it was like Alice and the looking glass- or CS Lewis's wardrobe- I was amazed that all these fights i'd planned on saving up and buying were available free- then I found unrecognized and here, and have met some fantastic people who have helped me out no end. It's a real priviledge to be a part of these great communities and I do feel a bit humbled by it.

My favourite pre-war fighters are Wilde, Greb and Ketchel,

Post war are Roberto Duran, Wilfredo Gomez, Alexis Arguello

My favourite current fighter is Pavlik.

Just want to say thanks, and keep up the good work!

Thanks alot guys

About me, my name is elio rivero, i'm 23 years old. I have a kid he's 3 years old, I was born in havana cuba in 1984, i came to the U.S in 1996 i was 12 years old, i learned english pretty fast (3 years of ESOL Classes), I went back to cuba to visit my mom's family 2 times (in 1998 and in 2003), i was pretty exited, i saw all of my friends that i left.

In here, i live in miami florida, which has a large portion of cuban-americans/immigrants, cubans have been part of miami since after castro's revolution in the late 1950's, and in the 1980's when 10-20 thousand cubans came to the miami shores in what it's known as the Mariel Boatlift.

i got into boxing in 1997 when i witnessed seeing my first boxing fight (Mike Tyson v.s Evander Holyfield II) , back then i never knew who tyson or holyfield were but it got me real interest in the sport, i parted from boxing for 4 years until i rented and played knockout kings 2001, that game really got me hooked on boxing, and introduced me fighters such as muhammad ali, ray leonard, shane mosley, floyd mayweather, and etc.

after playing the game i quickly got obsessed with the sport, and since then i've been a boxing fan. :).

My names CutMeMick. I'm 26 yrs. old (ouch! it hurts to type it) and I'm from Los Angeles, California. I've been a boxing fan for the better part of my life. Truth is I'm just a sports junkie but I have a certain passion for boxing that exceeds far and beyond the other sports. However I am known for going ballistic over a tennis match (Agasi-Blake US Open) but that's for another thread.

My earlisest boxing memory is being at a Jorge Paez fight in '86 when he fought Noe Gonzalez I don't remember much about it. Growing up as a kid it was either soccer/footy or boxing and I did soccer as kid but my uncles (which I owe everything I know about boxing to them) always talked boxing to me.

I grew up in East LA 4 blocks away from ODLH so it's no surprise that ODLH is one of my fav. fighters and beyond that a man I admire for never forgetting his people back home. As I got into my teens I still played footy but always had time for boxing then I enrolled in a gym not to take it full on but just as a hobby.
At the same time my uncles hard core fans always gathered up drinking and talking about the sport so I grew up hearing a lot about 60's, 70's & 80's eras.
of fighters like Carlos Ortiz, Mando Ramos, Alberto Davila, Lupe Pintor, Ali, Holmes, Yaqui Lopez, JCC, Alexis, Duran, Chango Carmona, Chianachoi, "Finito" Lopez, Eubanks, Watson, Collins, Esparragoza, Roman, Canto, Laciar, Watanabe etc. etc. etc. I would watch fights with them all the time on Terrestrial tv one of the earliest fights I remember watching was Michael Moorer vs. Leslie Stewart, I was about 9 yrs. old and I remember that day perfectly cause when my uncles got news that "Chiquita" Gonzalez had crowned himself as champ they went crazy in the house. Not only that but the fights that night were something special for me as 9 yr. old. After that we went to several small cards put together there but nothing big. Then in '94 I got to attend my 1st big live event when ODLH fought Bredahl for the WBO title. On that same card one of my uncles favorite fighters ever James Lights Out Toney faced off against Tim Littles. One of many fight nights I will never forget you'll rarely here me talk about this cause I have no way of proving this no pictures even our ticket stubs my uncle lost them but we carry the memories in our heart. One thing that I should mention of this night is I told my uncle "Why aren't they stopping the fight look at his eye I don't think Toney can see anymore" my uncle being the Toney fan that he is replies with "Shut up or your walking home" :D This was at the world famous Olympic Auditorium.

Since then I've been very blessed and fortunate to have attended some of the best fights of my generation. I've been ringside for:
ODLH vs. Bredahl
Toney vs. Littles
JLC vs. Corrales I
JMM vs. Polo
"Maestrito" Lopez vs. Mercedes
Rafa vs. Izzy I & III
Vic vs. Burgos
Quintana vs. Williams I
Berto vs. Trabant
Andrade vs. Kopitko
Bojado vs. Adamyan
"Baby Bull" Diaz vs. Contreras
and I've also gotten the opp. to see some of the best up and coming prospects and some top contenders such as: Enrique Ornelas who just had a brilliant battle with McKart, Giovanni Segura, Yohnny Perez, Brandon Rios, Jorge Paez Jr, Carlos De Leon Jr, Grzegorz Proksa, Antonio De Marco, Vanes Martirosyan, Leo Santa Cruz to name a few.

My fav. all time fighters are (1 per div):
Ali, Evander, Foster, Eubank, Monzon, ODLH, Emile, JCC, Duran, Alexis, Sanchez, Morales, Olivares, Roman, Canto and "Finito" Lopez.

I've also had the oppo. to meet a lot of boxers and other people involved in the sweet science at weigh ins and press conferences such as: Lennox Lewis, ODLH, James Toney, SSM, "Finito" Lopez, Morales, MAB, JMM, Carlos Ortiz, "The Tiger" Lopez, "Yaqui" Lopez, Armando Muniz, Earnie Terrel, Mike Weaver, Mando Ramos (RIP), Alex Ramos, Steven Luevano, Martin Castillo, Cotto, Margarito, McCullogh, Winky Wright, Ponce De Leon, Bobby Chacon, Jeff Lacy, Julio Gonzalez, Greg Haugen, Jorge Arce, Bobby Watts, Tony Weeks, Joe Cortez, Lou Duva, Ignacio Bersitein, Bojado, Arreola, BCD, Floyd Sr., Freddie Roach, Kellerman, Lampley, Merchant.

Well I hope I didn't bore anyone of you and if I did well then you should have stopped reading at some point... lol
I look forward to some good boxing talk sessions.

So who's next to introduce themselves? :D
